New to A.A.?

Welcome. We're glad you're here.

Walking into a meeting for the first time takes courage. Here is what you can expect from us, and a few ways to ease in.

You can just listen.

At an open meeting, you're welcome to sit, listen and see how it feels. Nobody has to speak.

Made for beginners.

Most of our 11 AM online meetings are beginners meetings, built for people walking in for the first time.

It costs nothing.

There are no dues or fees. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking.

Our group conscience

The NYU Group Conscience welcomes the discussion of drugs as well as alcohol.

Open or closed? What it means.

Every meeting on our schedule is marked one way or the other.

Open

Open meetings are available to anyone interested in A.A.'s program of recovery. People who aren't alcoholics are welcome to attend open meetings as observers.

Closed

Closed meetings are for A.A. members only, or for anyone who has a drinking problem and has a desire to stop drinking.

Read a little first

Short pamphlets from A.A. that answer the questions newcomers ask most.
