A.A. is for everyone.
Now You Understand is a group of Alcoholics Anonymous. We meet five days a week, in person in Greenwich Village and online.
No strings attached
A.A. isn't connected to any religion, political group or institution. We're a fellowship of people helping each other stay sober, and nothing more.
Anonymous, always
Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our traditions. What you hear here stays here, and your privacy comes first.
A safe room
Every member should expect a meaningful level of safety. We follow the General Service Office's statement on safety and have safety materials from A.A. To reach our safety committee, see Important Links. Your anonymity will be preserved.
Why "Now You Understand"?
The group wanted a name that echoed its location near NYU without suggesting any affiliation with the university. So the founders used the initials and came up with "Now You Understand." We are not affiliated with New York University in any way.
